A production background and recreated cel from the Disney Studios animated film "The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea" (2000). Featuring Melody gazing into the distance in front of a gorgeous cloudy sky, the hand-painted background was created at the studio and used during the animation process. The background is an actual piece of animation that was photographed and appears in the film. The backgrounds and drawings from the film are the only pieces of production art that exist, as the moving character imagery was colored by computer. The studio prepared the background for sale by pairing it with a hand-painted cel recreated using original imagery from the film, and traditional animation techniques. Measuring 13.5"x19" overall, with the character image measuring 6.75"x5.5", the piece is in very good condition with minimal edge and corner wear and light discoloration. The piece was originally prepared for sale by the studio's art program and comes with the studio COA. Also included are a production drawing and 3 timing sheets, which display production-related wear.
